Italy's 2019 Eurovision Song Contest representative Alessandro Mahmoud, AKA Mahmood, was born in Milano in 1992 to an Italian mother and Egyptian father.
In February 2019 Mahmood managed to win the Sanremo Festival with the song "Soldi", written and produced with Dardust and Charlie Charles. The track immediately became a megahit in Italy, resulting in a certified platinum status and reaching the number 1 position in all the Italian charts including airplay, the official singles chart, iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music and even charting in the Spotify Global Top 50.
He then released his debut album "Gioventù Bruciata", which debuted at number 1 in the FIMI/GFK Albums Chart.
In May 2019, he represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv, Israel. He performed "Soldi" in the grand final of the contest on 18 May, placing second in the final ranking.
