Manu Chao was born in a Parisian suburb in 1961 to a Basque mother and a Galician father. In the 1980s, he founded numerous small bands from the French alternative rock scene.
After founding La Mano Negra, which enjoyed overwhelming success until 1994 when the group disbanded, Manu Chao embarked on a solo career and offered rock characterised by diversity and Latin American tones with his album ‘Clandestino’, released in 1998. Three million copies were sold worldwide.
